Mayor to buddy up with taxi drivers of the Fraser Coast

FRASER Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell will form a closer relationship with taxi drivers of the region in an effort to stay informed.

Cr O'Connell said the drivers were constantly interacting with people which meant they often knew the issues in the community.

"If we can keep them well informed on what's going on... they're fuelled up with information," he said.

"I want to get into regular quarterly meetings with the taxi council of the Fraser Coast and the drivers."

Cr O'Connell said the drivers were always interacting with tourists.

"These guys are frontline ambassadors to the Fraser Coast," he said.

The meetings would also give drivers the opportunity to discuss the region's infrastructure problems.

Cr O'Connell said they could give the council advice with parking or roads.

"I think they're the eyes and ears that we don't often hear," he said.
