Fraser Coast scooter convoy set to break record

IT IS now almost time for the Fraser Coast to win the title of the host of the world's biggest mobility scooter convoy.

Scooter riders will get their chance this Saturday morning at Scarness Park.

Fraser Coast Regional Council councillor George Seymour said the current record, recorded as 158 and held by the Canadian town of Victoriaville, could be broken.

"The Scooter Convoy Record Attempt is a great way to highlight an important and growing form of transport in Hervey Bay," he said.

"It is important that we ensure this mode of transport is catered for in future planning for infrastructure and town planning at the same time as promoting safety awareness for riders and others including pedestrians and motorists."

The morning will include a sausage sizzle and entertainment.

Pre-register your mobility scooter or wheelchair by ringing 4194 2441 or register on Saturday from 8am.

The world-record setting convoy will depart Scarness Park at about 9.30am and return about half-an-hour later.
