Most tracks on Fraser Island reopened after wild weather

ALMOST all of Fraser Island's walkways have been reopened after summer's wild weather.

The Department of National Parks said the following sections of the Fraser Island Great Walk are now open:

  • Central Station to Lake McKenzie via Basin Lake
  • Central Station to Lake McKenzie via Pile Valley
  • Kingfisher Bay to Lake McKenzie via the Dundonga track
  • Kingfisher Bay to Lake McKenzie via McKenzie's Jetty

The Great Walk access track from the eastern beach via Lake Wabby to the lookout is open.

The Kirrar Sandblow circuit track is also open.

The remaining sections of the Great Walk and all camp sites will remain closed until repair works are undertaken.

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service advised the community to not enter closed tracks and to obey all signs and directions.
