FREEZING: Temperature plunges below zero
IT'S the day before winter, but the temperature has already plunged to near freezing in Toowoomba.
The lowest official minimum temperature recorded at the Bureau of Meteorology's weather station in Wilsonton was listed at 4.5 degrees at 6.30am.
But taking factors such as wind into account, the apparent temperature dropped to a frigid -0.5 degrees.
It was even colder a few kilometres west at Wellcamp airport where the temperature dropped to -1 degree.
The apparent temperature at the airport was -4.3 degrees at 7am.
If you thought it was colder than normal you're not dreaming.
The temperature in Toowoomba was about four degrees below the average May minimum of 9 degrees.

Meanwhile, the Gold Coast has shivered through its coldest day of the year so far, with the temperature dropping as low as 3 degrees celsius at inland parts of the region.
The last day of autumn has brought the first blast of winter, with chilly temperatures sweeping across the Glitter Strip.
At Beaudesert, the mercury read 3 degrees at 5am while it was just 9 degrees at Coolangatta.
The Seaway on The Spit came in at a comparatively warm 12 degrees.
It is a sharp drop from the minimum temperatures of the past five days, which have no dropped below double digits across the city.
Despite the cool temperatures, conditions are set to remain clear through until the end of the week when there will be the chance of showers across the weekend.
On the Sunshine Coast, temperatures were warmer but Gympie was at just over 8 degrees at 7.30am.
In the South Burnett, Kingaroy was on 3.7 degrees at the same time.
