Hervey Bay PCYC to re-open soon

HERVEY Bay’s PCYC could be open again in four weeks.

Manager Sergeant Patrick Fleming said yesterday Wormalds was about to start pre-wiring for the installation of smoke alarms.

“They are putting a full fire protection system in for us, which is fantastic,” he said.

Wormalds manager Greg Wall said the work would begin today.

“We’re good getting support from other local businesses to install this system, which we’ve designed especially for the PCYC,” Mr Wall said. “CNW Electrical is supplying all the cabling.”

Sgt Fleming is in Perth until Wednesday, working towards his PhD on the attrition rate of reported sex offences.

He said he was in daily contact with his staff back in the Bay and that 20 of them were still being paid and were working “full on towards getting the building into shape, along with a new look in some areas”.

“They have re-done the foyer, resealed the basketball court and we are about to install $30,000 of weight equipment, which we got from a grant.

“Everyone is really positive and the council has been terrific in letting us know what progress they are making towards getting us legally certified.”
