Help Toowoomba woman who lost everything in fire

IT was four days before Christmas when Cheryl Murchie lost everything after her home was damaged by fire.

The fire started in the garage and moved onto part of the Rangeville house she had been renting for 18 years.

Ms Murchie was at work at the time, but her three dogs, three cats and two birds were at home.

She raced home to watch firefighters battle the blaze.

Thankfully, none of her animals perished in the fire. One bird did escape.

The stress of the ordeal put Ms Murchie in hospital for nine days.

When Ms Murchie left hospital she discovered virtually nothing was salvageable. She lost family photos, treasured memories and Christmas presents.

Ms Murchie's friend and boss at CCP Your Catering People Carmel Tulloch said she was a strong woman who would bounce back with a smile on her face.

Ms Tulloch has decided to hold fundraising events to help her get back on her feet.

"We are hosting a fundraising event at the USQ Hub where we will have raffles, food, drinks and entertainment," she said.

"It is all in a bid to help Cheryl rebuild her life. The university has been behind the event every step."

Ms Murchie said she was blown away by the support.

"I am just amazed with the kindness of everyone around me, even strangers," she said.

"I lost basically everything. Anything the fire didn't burn was water or smoke damaged.

"I can't thank everyone enough for what they are doing for me."
