Game Dev Tycoon: Not worth pirating let alone buying

GREENHEART Games became "internet famous" after releasing a trapped version of its latest title to pirates.

Game Dev Tycoon lets you take your own game development company from garage to greatness, dodging bad reviews, bankruptcy and online piracy.

The game gained the limelight when owners Patrick and Daniel Klug decided to fight the last problem by anonymously releasing the game to pirates with a trap: players who pirated it would always go bankrupt in-game at the hands of pirates. Gamers were split on the stunt, but the huge exposure meant that plenty of folk went and bought the game to help support poor indie developers, happy that they'd learnt the moral of the story.

Unfortunately, the game is barely worth the $8.

Playing the game is easy and seems intuitive until you realise how clunky the tools are. The lack of depth is staggering for a "tycoon" game and stops being fun after about half an hour.

On the plus side, the game is only $8 and it'll take you the duration of a $10 movie to stop having fun with it. This type of game has been done before and done better.

Publisher: Greenheart Games.

Price: $7.99
