Gargett mum of six killed in car crash
A WOMAN from a small Pioneer Valley community was the second person to die in a horror week on the region's roads.
Tracey Gardner-Kaddatz, 47, was a well-known member of the Gargett community and left behind six children.
She died at the scene, when her car rolled on the Mirani-Mount Ossa Rd at 4.40am Saturday.
Ms Gardner-Kaddatz was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
A Mackay police spokesman said the vehicle rolled several times before landing down an embankment, near a right-hand bend.
Police are investigating reports another motorist found Ms Gardner-Kaddatz sleeping in her car on the Seaforth Rd earlier that morning.
A woman from the Gargett community described Ms Gardner-Kaddatz as a "goer" with a "beautiful heart".
"She was good with her kids," the woman said.
"She made sure they had the best she could give them.
"It's a big loss for the community.
"It's very upsetting."
The woman said Ms Gardner-Kaddatz's family was "trying to do the best" it could.
A 47-year-old man, who died following a collision on the Bruce Hwy two kilometres north of Coningsby on Thursday night, was yesterday identified as Owen Jones.
Six other people involved in the crash were taken to Mackay Base Hospital with injuries. And three people were transported to hospital, following a crash on the Bruce Hwy at Pindi Pindi, also on Thursday evening.
Seventeen people have died on the region's roads so far this year.
The Mackay region recorded the fourth-highest number of fatalities across the state, so far this year.
