Gas explosion in CBD injures restaurant worker

ONE person, believed to be a Downtown Burgers employee, was taken to hospital with burns after a reported gas explosion at the Ocean St restaurant.

Maryborough Fire Station officer Vanessa Madge said they were called to the incident about 11.30am, and paramedics had since taken the patient to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

She said on arrival, two firefighters entered wearing breathing apparatus, isolated the gas and made the scene safe.

She said traffic on Ocean St was blocked for about 15 minutes but there was no further impact on members of the public.

A gas examiner arrived on scene shortly after midday.

Ms Madge said she and her crew were among the first responders to the Peregian Beach bushfire, which broke out yesterday afternoon.

They battled the blaze until they were relieved about 11pm and were back on shift at 8am today.

"We are built tough," she said

"Obviously it's just a tragic situation, fire conditions have been extreme this year and QFES are well prepared."
