Generosity a sight to see for Hervey Bay family
EDITORIAL: Once again, the Fraser Coast's wonderful community spirit has shone through - this time, in the generous response to the Tindall family's appeal for help to save their daughter's sight.
With our public health system stretched to the limit, the only way to help Ella-Rose before it was too late was to fund the surgery privately.
This is a predicament many other people across the region are also facing.
The family's story took the Chronicle's website by storm and was shared hundreds of times across social networking sites such as Facebook.
There must be no worse feeling as a parent than feeling like you can't help your child.
But conversely, there can be few better feelings than knowing that enough people around you care about your troubles to dip into their bank accounts - especially when they're total strangers.
While the family won't know for several months whether Ella-Rose's surgery has been a success, the operation in Brisbane is the best shot the five-year-old has to keep her vision.
Without the help of such warm-hearted friends and strangers all over the Fraser Coast, she wouldn't have that hope.
It is this type of empathy and support that makes our region such a great place to call home.
