Getting ready to wind down

A WEEK of fun, friends and no stress – that is what school-leavers Emily Smith and Bianca Swann are looking forward to when the Xavier Catholic College students head to the Gold Coast for Schoolies Week next week.

The girls, both 17, are aware of the hype surrounding Schoolies Week – especially the seedier side – but both know their limitations and are keen for a fun-filled week away without any hassles.

Emily said she had heard a bit about Schoolies from other people – “just that it’s really fun and there is heaps to do,” she said.

“You’ve got to be careful and stick with your mates – don’t let yourself get out of control.”

Emily has been looking forward to Schoolies for weeks, especially since the onset of end-of-year exams. She says it will be the perfect way to wind down after the stress of the past year.

“It will be a good release after all the exam pressure.

“I know my limitations – it just depends. Some people do get out of control but for me it’s not an issue.”

Bianca agreed, saying she was really excited about hanging with her mates for a week.

She is not too worried about running into problems during Schoolies Week.

“Obviously it’s your choice as a person as to what you want to do – you’ve just got to control yourself.”
