UPDATE: Girl, 5, taken to hospital after snake bite

UPDATE 3PM: A 5-YEAR-OLD girl who was bitten by a snake at Torbanlea is expected to be released from hospital overnight.

The girl was bitten on Joynsons Rd about 4.15pm on Tuesday night.

Doctors at Hervey Bay Hospital were unable to detect any venom in the girl's system.

She has been under observation and is described as being in a stable condition.

EARLIER: A-FIVE-YEAR old girl was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital after being bitten by a snake in Torbanlea.

Paramedics were called to the Joynsons Rd home about 4.15pm on Tuesday afternoon.

The girl's mother had already applied first aid and bandaged the girl's foot when ambulance arrived.

Ambulance officers saw two small red puncture wounds on the girl's foot.

The girl and her mother were not able to identify the type snake.

She was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.
