IF YOU ever had the urge to soar like a bird, why not consider gliding?

An open evening with the Maryborough Gliding Club will be held from 6pm today at the Maryborough Airport.

People will be able to talk to pilots and have a look at gliders.

At 5pm, there will be a chance to get up close to a K7 and 103 glider.

Two gliders will be available for hire when the club begins operations at the Maryborough Airport

They will be launched by a winch.

The formation of the club has been welcomed by Fraser Coast Regional Council small business, manufacturing and service industry portfolio Councillor Chris Loft.

"The club will help focus attention on the Maryborough Airport," he said.

"Gliding enthusiasts, and aviation enthusiasts, move around the country so there is a good chance they will visit and see the potential for development here.

"The club will also provide a new recreational pursuit for the region which will also attract people here and add to the vibrant character of the region."
