Car destroyed by fire in early morning blaze

A CAR has been destroyed early this morning after it was engulfed in flames in the Gold Coast's west, causing a smoke plume that could be seen several suburbs away.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 6am this morning after reports of black smoke.

A Mazda CX5 was found burning near the corner of Gilston Road and New Street.

It was completely gutted by the fire, which was extinguished before 6.30am.
