Golden girl Nikki Hudson weds her true love
WHAT do Toowoomba hockey legend and Olympian Nikki Hudson and Gold Coast developer John Fish have in common?
They both strive for excellence in their chosen careers and that, among other things, makes them a "match made in heaven" said Mrs Fish.
The happy couple tied the knot in front of about 240 family and friends on the weekend at their home on their property near Uki at the foot of Mt Warning in northern New South Wales.
"It is such a beautiful place," Mrs Fish, who won a gold medal at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, said.
The 39-year-old said it was a pretty relaxed day, with the only hiccup being a half-an-hour delay to the ceremony due to rain.
"It was a really lovely day," she said.
As for the venue, the couple didn't have to do much searching.
"It's so beautiful (on our property) that we just thought why not get married here at home?"
She met Mr Fish, 54, by chance at a restaurant in Paradise Point eight years ago and were engaged last year in the Bahamas.
"We were on tour with a cricket group in the US and stopped in at the Bahamas to relax on the way home," she said.
Mrs Fish said she was a little bit shocked by Mr Fish's proposal, however could not be happier.
"He's fantastic and he's my best mate," she said.
"With the career that I had, to meet someone who's like me, we both strive for excellence, we're a match made in heaven."
Mrs Fish works with her husband for their business and is still involved in the hockey industry.
