Bashing victim Lindsay Ede loses fight for life

GOODNA bashing victim Lindsay Ede's long fight has ended, with the 55-year-old passing away in hospital yesterday.

Mr Ede was allegedly assaulted while walking along Albert St on June 22. He sustained a massive head injury and never woke up, despite the best efforts of medical staff. Mr Ede had earlier been transferred from the PA Hospital to a palliative care unit in Ipswich

Police are likely to upgrade the charge against Mr Ede's alleged attacker, Ariik Mayot, to unlawful striking causing death.

If this happens, Mayot will be the first person in Queensland to be charged with the new offence, which was introduced to address the prevalance of one-punch assaults.

Mayot's case is scheduled to be heard again in Ipswich Magistrates Court on July 22.
