Grand park vision may be misread
I SUSPECT there will be one question on the minds of many people, when reading about plans to build "Central Park" in Hervey Bay.
How much will it cost?
By likening it to Central Park, while evocative, I fear the Mayor may have started the project out on the wrong foot with some people.
Central Park is not only massive, but also has numerous trails, statues and playgrounds that are seriously pricey to run, by park standards.
As a ratepayer, I can see huge potential in creating this green space - the beautiful Queens Park is well-used in Maryborough, and Hervey Bay would benefit from the same kind of space.
It would be a real shame to see the idea shouted down because people hear the comparison to New York's landmark, and think it will be too expensive.
Our council is excellent at coming up with the grand visions, but there are some instances - and there's no need to guess what I'm referring to - where the scale of their vision is largely out of sync with community expectations.
On the other hand, if they do go ahead with the plan, we could build our own memorial like John Lennon's, to one of our own dead rock stars.
I'd suggest Bon Scott.
Because if the council can pull this off, they may be "Back in Black", as AC/DC sing.
