Grandmother fined for cannabis use in home

A GRANDMOTHER has been fined $1000 for allowing her granddaughter to smoke cannabis inside her house.

Dianne Dulcie Lorraine Pascoe pleaded guilty to the permitting use of place charge at Ipswich Magistrates Court, today.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Brad Dick said police had searched the 60-year-old's Roma house on May 19.

During the search, police found a glass water pipe and a bucket bong in the grandmother's bedroom.

The 20-year-old granddaughter, who had been living with Pascoe for three months, said she smoked cannabis at the house each day.

The granddaughter told police her grandmother had asked her to smoke the drug in the bedroom so the smell of cannabis wouldn't drift outside.

Defence lawyer Cameron Hodges said Pascoe was a disability support pensioner and that his client accepted responsibility for allowing her granddaughter to smoke cannabis in the house.

Magistrates Virginia Sturgess noted Pascoe had prior convictions for drug-related offences.

Pascoe was convicted and fined $1000.
