Great event for green horses

With a plethora of one-day events scheduled on Fraser Coast Horse Club calenders for 2010 this day is a perfect trial for the year ahead.

Amy Hirth, treasurer and events secretary for the Fraser Coast Hunter Trials Club, says their up and coming open hunter trial on Sunday, February 28 will be a great opportunity for riders to get firmly back in the saddle with a trek around Maryborough Park’s cross country course and showjumping arena.

“It’s great for young green horses and is a good casual day,” Ms Hirth said.

“A lot of riders use it like a training day.”

The unofficial day will see around 60 horses and riders start the cross country course from 8.30am followed by the showjumping round.

Groups include beginners to pre-novice and include four various heights of jumps on the cross-country portion, which Ms Hirth describes at “definitely” the highlight of the day.

“The water jump is always a good one to watch.”

Spectators are invited to come along and watch the event for free and are recommended to take a seat at the showjumping ring where: “You can sit and watch the whole round.”

Although nominations for riders closed yesterday Ms Hirth said the club is still looking for about 26 volunteers to help out on the day.

Mr Hirth said looming storms and wet weather could put a dampener on the day and riders should phone for confirmation if the big wet persists.

“If we get much more rain we may need to cancel if it’s too wet and slippery.”

To find out more or to check if the event is cancelled phone Ms Hirth on 0408 986 352.
