IF YOU'VE ever picked up a piece of Lego as a kid, this film is for you.

The Lego Movie is a beautifully animated, colourful, funny and well-written film that will appeal to kids and adults alike.

It follows the tale of ordinary, rule-abiding, average Lego minifigure Emmet (Pratt), who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world.

He's recruited by the MasterBuilders, lead by Vitruvius (Freeman) and Wyldstyle (Banks) on a quest to stop President Business (Ferrell) from destroying the Lego world.

This isn't a giant toy ad - this is about as heartfelt as they come.

It's quite possibly the most relatable film you'll see this year.

Any child will be drawn in by the colourful cast of characters and recognisable faces from Lego's fast empire, while adults might recall some fond memories of growing up with the product.

My only negative for this film is still a positive - there's always so much happening on screen at once it was impossible to take in on the first sitting.

It may look simple, but The Lego Movie is anything but.

It's got a great message at the heart of it.

This a fun film for all ages.
