AN ESTIMATED 50,000 people flocked to Childers on Sunday to enjoy the sights and sounds of the only festival in Queensland that closes the Bruce Hwy.

The 2013 Childers Festival was a smorgasbord of entertainment, featuring five stages, dozens of live acts from across the globe and almost 500 market stalls.

Among the entertainment was Hervey Bay's Dan and Steph, the winners of 2013 My Kitchen Rules, who cooked up a storm using local produce.

Bundaberg Regional councillor Judy Peters said she estimated the crowd was slightly up on last year's 50,000.

"There are people here from all across the Wide Bay but I am noticing a lot more visitors," she said.

Ms Peters said, as with previous years, the quality of food on offer was fantastic, with everything from Hungarian to Japanese.

She said she was also impressed with the quality of the performers, particularly the local street theatre performers.
