Green light for tour operators to land on Fraser beaches

TOUR boat operators who had been prevented from landing on Fraser Island now will be allowed to under a deal reached with the State Government on Thursday.

Member for Hervey Bay, Ted Sorensen, who spoke in Parliament last year decrying rules that defined who could take passengers to the island, said boats would now be able to land on beaches, allowing visitors an "enhanced ecotourism experience".

He said the deal was "a fantastic outcome for operators".

In his 2012 speech, Mr Sorensen said red tape, for example rules restricting the numbers of people that could be taken to the island in one trip, was "strangling our tourism industry".
