Gun pulled on women in terrifying CBD incident

TWO women taking a break at work have had a gun pointed at them during a terrifying incident in downtown Maroochydore.

Julie McCall took to social media seeking public help to identify the gang of youths which approached her and a colleague near the government building opposite the Maroochydore Courthouse.

Maroochydore Police officer in charge Senior Sergeant Scott Nolan said the women had been approached and asked for a cigarette by two males and a female.

When Ms McCall and her colleague refused the youths' request, she said one of the teens "pulled a gun" on the two workers.

Snr Sgt Nolan said the women had reported a handgun was pointed at both of them at about 2.45pm last Thursday, before the teens walked off.

He said no verbal threats were made and it appeared to have been a one-off incident.

"We're treating it as a real gun at this stage," Snr Sgt Nolan said.

He said patrols of the area had failed to find the group, who took off on foot after the confrontation.

"It's unacceptable behaviour. It's an offence and we'll be taking all appropriate action when the offenders are located," Snr Sgt Nolan said.

He said surrounding CCTV footage was being reviewed in order to identify the offenders.

"I think they (two women) were in fear," Snr Sgt Nolan said.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Maroochydore Police.

The reference number for the incident is QP17 0206 3545.
