Gymnasts shoot for gold

WIDE Bay gymnasts leapt into the annual Gymnastics Queensland State Championships yesterday.

“We have some of Queensland and Australia's most talented gymnasts,” Gymnastics Queensland Competetive events director Kym Dowdell said.

The competition, held in Caloundra, is an opportunity for Wide Bay Gymnastics Club members to shine across the four-day event.

Competing against 45 local and interstate clubs, the Hervey Bay gymnasts have their sights set on gold.

“Events such as this, enable the young Wide Bay gymnasts to not only compete for the coverted titles but also to learn from the best,” Dowdell said.

The event has attracted about 750 competitors between eight and 25 years of age, from Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia and the ACT.

“Fans can also look forward to enjoying commentary by 2008 Olympian, Sam Simpson and performances by several national champions.”

“This event has always been a firm favourite for spectators and we encourage fans to come along to support the Wide Bay Gymnastics Club competitors as they demonstrate their remarkable skills,” she said.
