Gymnasts welcome to club's open day

ASPIRING gymnasts will have the opportunity to test themselves and meet new coaches when Wide Bay Gymnastics Club hosts an open day on Saturday.

Gym manager Ben Villalobos and coach Carolina Urrea will be at the Walkers Rd, Urangan, club from 11am to 2pm.

Villalobos and Urrea left Chile three years ago on an odyssey that has featured coaching stints in China, where they developed new programs for competitive clubs, and New Zealand.

Villalobos will complete assessments on any gymnast aged five and above who is interested in the competitive pathway.

The competitive programs cater for boys and girls, and gymnasts compete at competitions across the Sunshine Coast region within their level.

Children are assessed with a physical ability test, which focuses on strength and flexibility, for entry into the program.

They will also need to show a strong desire to be involved in gymnastics and be willing to make a commitment to the program.
