Hands up if you think your kindy’s a winner

TWO Fraser Coast early childhood centres have been nominated for a national award in excellence thanks to the happy experiences of their kids.

Village Kids Children's Centre in Torquay and Condy Park Kindergarten in Pialba are in with a chance to win the Service of the Year gong at the Australian Family Early Education and Care Awards, in June next year.

Village Kids Children's Centre director Alicia Moody said she was not surprised her centre had been nominated by parents impressed with their kids' learning adventures at the centre.

"We are involved in so many community events which included the National Walk for William earlier this year, making donations to the Salvation Army, trips to prep classrooms and also lessons here in dance, Japanese and rugby," she said.

Condy Park Kindergarten director Kathryn Forgan-Flynn said the nature-based curriculum meant her kindy was a "beautiful place".

The kids at Condy Park visit the beach once every fortnight to learn about environmental sustainability.

"The kids who come here remember their experiences for years," Kathryn said.
