Have your say on council complaints
THE Fraser Coast community is now able to have a say about the way complaints made against the Fraser Coast Regional Council are handled.
The Councillor Complaints Review Panel is looking to improve their system.
Panel chairman David Solomon said changes would be made to the way the panel approached complaints.
"Councillors hold positions of authority that have significant potential to influence the wellbeing of their local government area," Dr Solomon said.
"It matters how they conduct themselves and how they are seen to behave."
The panel has released a discussion paper highlighting different proposed approaches to handling complaints.
The approaches include amending the Local Government Act 2009, suggesting councils establish "ethics and conduct" panels and reconstituting the Local Government Remuneration and Disciplinary Tribunal to deal solely with councillor conduct matters with its own CEO, support staff and investigative powers.
To view the discussion paper, go to www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au and to submit feedback email ComplaintsReviewPanel@ dilgp.qld.gov.au.
Submissions close on Friday, September 23.
