Man discharges himself from hospital after CBD altercation

A 23-YEAR-OLD man who sustained serious head injuries during a brawl in Maryborough's CBD discharged himself from hospital against medical advice yesterday.

The man was rushed to Hervey Bay Hospital in a serious condition about 3.20am Sunday after he was involved in what began as a verbal altercation with another man outside Rick's Pies on Kent St.

A police spokesman said the 23-year-old was punched once before falling to the ground and hitting his head hard on the concrete.

A spokesman from the CIB said the victim felt well enough to discharge himself from hospital about 10am - but that was against medical advice.

He said police were still investigating the incident and urged any witnesses to come forward by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
