Guns and drugs seized

GUNS and drugs were seized and 19 people have been charged after police raids at Howard and Toogoom.

Amphetamines, marijuana and hydroponic equipment were uncovered when police searched 18 properties over two days.

At one Pacific Haven home, an elaborate hydroponic setup inside two shipping containers was dismantled and a 51-year-old man was charged with producing a dangerous drug and possession of property used in a crime.

“It was a large-scale hydroponic setup,” Howard Senior Constable Michael Polit said.

Three rifles and a small amount of marijuana were also seized during the raids, which were conducted by police from Howard station, Maryborough CIB and the Wide Bay Tactical Crime Squad as part of Operation Nalcip.

The 19 arrested people will face the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court in December on 45 drug and weapon offences.

Police say they targeted many of the properties after receiving tip-offs from members of the public.

Snr Const. Polit said police relied heavily on tip-offs and encouraged people to continue watching out for suspicious behaviour.

“All information from the public is treated as serious and we are always seeking information which can assist with our investigations,” Snr Const. Polit said.
