Springborg fears more health cuts under Rudd

HEALTH Minister Lawrence Springborg said he was worried that health services on the Darling Downs would lose more money under Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

Mr Springborg said the Federal Government had already ripped $6.12 million out of last year's health budget and he feared it could be more this time around as Mr Rudd struggled to fund election promises.

"Kevin Rudd is prancing and dancing around the state with his happy face on while the Darling Downs region bleeds from the damage inflicted by his former Treasurer," Mr Springborg said.

"If he really wants to win over regional Queensland then he needs to give back the $6.12 million he stole from the Darling Downs Hospital and Health budget and promise more funds, not less."

Mr Springborg said a Senate inquiry had confirmed the brutal impact of the commonwealth cuts.

"When Julia Gillard was Prime Minister, she gave money back to Victoria. Now Kevin Rudd should give back the $103 million that was stolen from Queensland," Mr Springborg said.

"I am genuinely worried that he will rob Peter to pay Paul.

"To scrap his Carbon Tax he is going to need money and past experience shows that the people on the Downs are considered fair game by Labor."

"The Darling Downs deserve more than a phoney smile from Kevin Rudd."

Mr Springborg said the State Government had increased health expenditure by more than $1 billion to $12.3 billion in just over 12 months.
