UPDATE 10AM: Young Cory Spring did not expect to find a helicopter in his back paddock when he went to school this morning.

The Wellcamp State School student and his family were checking out the rain and winds at their property Kurrajong across the road from the school last night, when a neighbour crashed his chopper into their paddock about 6.30pm.

His mother Jen said she watched the helicopter struggle in the wind, before coming to ground in the darkness.

"Because it's always windy, he couldn't land at his place (up the hill)," she said.

"We've got an old dairy at the side our house and he came up over that.

"My husband thought he was going to hit the house.

"We looked out the side veranda and he was (up the top of the paddock), hovering up, down and sideways.

"I thought he was going to crash, because he couldn't get control of it and the wind had him."
