Helmetless cyclist to fight stealing charge

A MAN who appeared in Maryborough Magistrates Court facing charges of stealing and riding a bicycle without a helmet has pleaded guilty to one charge while indicating he would fight the other.

Timothy Joseph Bretz, 17, has been accused of stealing a bicycle, but pleaded not guilty to that charge when it was mentioned in court.

In regards to the second charge of failing to wear a helmet, he entered a guilty plea and the charge was dealt with by magistrate John Smith.

The court heard Bretz, living at Dundathu with his pregnant partner, was stopped by police on Bazaar St after they noticed him riding without a helmet.

He told the officers it was "too hot" to wear a helmet.

Bretz was fined $150 for his actions.

He will appear in court on March 3 when the stealing charge will be heard.
