Soup kitchen finds a helping hand
ROBERT Roach and Jason Johnston have put up their hands to help keep the Friday night soup kitchen going in Maryborough, but the weekly feed is "not out of the woods yet".
On December 7, about 30 people who had put their names down to help keep the dinners going went along to a meeting with the church leaders to decide who would take over the former coordinators who recently retired.
Robert and Jason, who also voluntarily runs the St Paul's Opportunity Shop in Adelaide St, were given the responsibility of running the kitchen every third Friday of the month.
"We just couldn't see it close," Robert said.
Reverend Sue Wilson from St Paul's said more volunteers were needed to for the first and second weeks.
"We've got our coordinators but we need soup makers, sandwich makers and helpers."
