Student saves toddler, gets rewarded with tuckshop voucher

A NOOSA high school student has been rewarded with a $5 tuckshop voucher and a special certificate for rescuing a toddler who jumped in a pool without his floaties.

Kyle Topliff, a Year 8 student at Noosa District High School, was at a family friend's barbecue last week when he realised the host couple's one-year-old son was in the pool and going under.

"We were standing around the pool, the adults were talking, and I was eating some chocolate out of a bag and I saw that (the boy) was in the pool," Kyle said.

"I just jumped in the pool and saved him.

"We did surf safety last year, which just taught us safety around the beach and pools and water."

Apparently the boy had jumped into the pool without his usual yellow floaties on his arms.

"I'm very proud of myself," Kyle said.

"My parents said it was a really good thing to do."

The boy's parents were also thankful, and shocked at the mere seconds it took for their young son to get into trouble.

Kyle's heroics were recognised with a special award as student of the week at the school's Pomona campus.

The school also presented him with a $5 voucher to spend at the school's tuckshop.

"Well done, Kyle, you have made us all very proud," Year 8 and 9 co-ordinator Adam Baker said.
