Hervey Bay basketball need players

A SUCCESSFUL opening to the new Hervey Bay basketball social season has local officials predicting a bright future for the club that almost disappeared from view.

Organiser Margaret Harris said while the club was pleased with the turn outs there was still plenty of spots available for players in all competitions.

“We are particularly pushing our Tuesday afternoon competition for junior players at the PCYC and would like to see more players in the 10-12 years and 14-16 years competitions.

The Under 12s play at 4pm, while the Under 16s start at 5.15pm.

“We cater for all levels of play and welcome any youngster even if they have never picked up a basketball in their life,” she said.

“It’s purely a social competition aimed at letting kids have fun and experience our great game.”

The Open women’s competition which starts at 6pm on Tuesday nights needs two more teams and organisers say they’d like to hear from anyone who could organise a team or just come along.

The club is also keen to hear from anyone who would like to become involved in coaching and administration.

Margaret can be contacted at the Hervey Bay Basketball Club on 0407 286 507.
