Hervey Bay hosts the state's best young football players

HERVEY Bay has welcomed Queensland's best young football players for four days of intense competition.

The Queensland School Sport 10-12yrs Football Championships will be held at Hervey Bay's Tavistock St complex. The opening ceremony kicks off proceedings at 9am today, with the first game at 10am.

The competition attracts teams from all 12 regions, each of whom will field a boys and girls team - a total of 336 players.

Convener Sarah Walker said games would be played on both the junior and senior fields. Tavistock St will not be closed.

A state team will be selected to compete at the Pacific School Games, to be held in Adelaide from December 1-10.
