Retail, hospital developments give jobseekers new hope

FRASER Coast jobseekers have their choice of dozens of jobs in retail positions at Stockland outlets and at St Stephen's Hospital.

The positions have been advertised on seek.com.au, with outlets needing store managers and staff at shops such as Colette, Frontline Retail, Kmart and Jeanswest believed to be opening at the new Stockland expansion later this year.

A new Coles store will also open at the complex and will offer more than 100 jobs.

There will be 70 speciality stores at the complex, three mini-majors and a 500-seat, cafe-style food court.

St Stephen's Hospital was also advertising positions ahead of the hospital's opening in about four months.

Positions include openings for maintenance assistants or sterilisation technicians.

Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce president Tim Powers said it was great to see new stores coming to the city and he hoped it would encourage people to shop locally as the stores would offer more choice.

With so many positions available it would be a boost to employment in the region, Mr Powers said.

Positions at St Stephen's Hospital would also serve to attract professionals, which in turn would boost the median wage of the Fraser Coast, he said.

Mr Powers said the Chamber of Commerce had supported both projects but it was time to turn their eyes to the future and the next big project for the region.

The revitalisation of the Urangan Marina was next on the list, Mr Powers said.
