Hervey Bay musician to play at Woodford Folk Festival
AL DAVIES' heart skipped a beat as he found out he had been selected to play in the prestigious Sunshine Coast Woodford Folk Festival welcome orchestra.
Playing at the international festival has always been on the Hervey Bay musician's bucket list, likening it to "a cyclist getting to ride in the Tour de France".
Now, after impressing the judges at an audition in Caloundra recently, Mr Davies' dream will be realised on stage when he plays classical guitar in the 36-piece orchestra on December 27.
"I perform quite a lot up and down the Coast at festivals and things and I've had some fabulous times playing and performing but this is another step," he said.
"To be able to perform in an orchestra in front of a crowd of about 8000-10,000 people, it's quite amazing and will be quite a challenge.
"It's something totally different and I'm really looking forward to it."
Mr Davies said he was also chuffed to be playing alongside four-time ARIA Award winning songstress Katie Noonan.
"It's such a wonderful opportunity to be on stage with an orchestra and the wonderful Katie Noonan as well," he said.
The Woodford Folk Festival is held annually over six days and six nights from December 27 to January 1.
More than 2000 performers and 438 events are programmed, featuring local, national and international guests.
This year will be the 30th Woodford Folk Festival and the 22nd held at Woodfordia.
