SATURDAY night's Hervey Bay RSL Christmas Carols at the Seafront Oval in Pialba has been cancelled due soggy grounds.

Hervey Bay RSL duty manager Craig McKinnon said "it was too wet to continue".

"The set up at the oval for the concert began this morning but now the grounds have been closed," Mr McKinnon said.

"A decision has not yet been made if the Christmas concert will be rescheduled."

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Sean Fitzgerald said about 16mm of rain fell over Hervey Bay, in a time period measured from 9am that morning.

Maryborough received only 2.6mm of rain, he said.

"The rain hasn't been particularly heavy but it has been consistent, so it appears a lot heavier than it actually is," Mr Fitzgerald said.

While the westerly moving trough which brought in the downfall is expected to move off the coast by Saturday night, more showers are predicted until Tuesday.

"Tuesday itself will be clear but from Wednesday onwards, the showers will again pick back up again," Mr Fitzgerald said.
