Torquay teen allegedly attacks Uber driver with a machete

A HERVEY Bay teenager will face Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning after she allegedly attacked an Uber driver with a machete.

The 17-year-old Torquay woman allegedly attacked the 37-year-old driver at Bridgeman Downs, north of Brisbane, at 12.30am.

It is alleged she was picked up at Colburn St, Zillmere, but when the driver realised the woman was not his fare she allegedly attacked the driver with the machete before attempting to steal his car.

The woman was charged with attempted robbery with violence and assault occasioning bodily harm.

The driver, from Runcorn, was rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for treatment of "serious but non-life-threatening" head injuries.

She is due to appear in court Thursday morning.
