Hervey Bay trio to fly with Bundaberg's best

The aim for the women's Bundaberg Rugby League side is pretty simple ahead of this year's 47th Battalion carnival in Yeppoon.

The side is hoping to improve on their one win from last year and make the final of the event which starts tomorrow.

Coach Glen Darby feels he has a team capable of doing that.

An increase in the women's BRL local competition has seen five teams involved this year instead of three.

This has allowed Darby to pick his players from a larger talent base.

"Absolutely it has helped and we've picked a side that is a blend of all the club,” he said.

This is despite the side missing their first two choices to play at five-eighth and half-back.

"Christie Chapman will play at five-eighth with Taleasha Morrice starting her first campaign at half-back,” he said.

"I'm confident they will both do well.”

The captain of the squad will be fullback and Brothers' Kady Tinker with Darby confident the side can play a good style of football.

"She has lots of experience and she'll lead the team well,” Darby said.

"We're aiming to play a structured attack and be disciplined as well in defence.”

The side will face Central Highlands at 10am tomorrow before facing Gladstone at 2pm.

The winner of that pool will face the winner of the other pool for the title on Sunday.
