Hervey Bay woman caught up in Bali ‘hijack incident’

A HERVEY Bay woman's week of rest and relaxation got off to a rocky start when her plane was at the centre of a hijack claim at Bali's Denpasar airport.

Jenny Waterhouse was one of the passengers on Virgin Australia flight VA41, which was headed from Brisbane to Bali when the hijacking warning was issued.

Jenny's husband, Peter who remained in Hervey Bay, says his wife didn't even know there was a problem until after the plane was surrounded by security.

"She said it was only when military vehicles surrounded the plane and men with submachine guns boarded that she realised it was their plane that was the issue," Mr Waterhouse said.

The flight made headlines last week when Queensland man, Matt Christopher Lockley, was detained by Indonesian authorities after allegedly causing a disturbance mid-flight.

Mr Lockley was said to be attempting to enter the cockpit when the pilot issued a hijacking warning - but he later claimed he had mistaken the cockpit for a toilet.
