THE Urangan Pier could become home to a high-rise hotel or restaurant if a council report paves the way for enterprise on the iconic structure.

City and town centre development councillor Daniel Sanderson put a question on notice to the chief executive officer at a recent meeting.

He asked for a report on "enlivening the Urangan Pier", providing opportunities for "exciting business ventures" and "putting out an expression of interest" for eateries.

The report is also to research the option of a restaurant or hotel using the pier.

Cr Sanderson said he was not looking to cause controversy, only to find out if such ambitions could be catered for, and if interest for such ventures was there.

"It would be about allowing those within the community or those outside the region to know if there was a possibility that part of the pier or areas of council-owned land could become an opportunity for someone to invest," Cr Sanderson said.
