Nick helps to secure premiership

NICK Braun secured more than just the competition points for his team in the Hervey Bay Hockey Association men’s senior competition at Torquay’s McPhie Park on Saturday.

His two goals helped Brothers not only beat Fraser Flames 2-0, but also win the minor premiership with two rounds to go.

Youngbloods beat Magpies 2-0 to move into second place on the ladder.

Mark McVeigh and Cameron Muller scored the important goals for Youngbloods.

Honours finished even in the top-of-the-ladder showdown in the women’s division between Magpies and Brothers, with the teams locked at 1-all.

Brothers took the lead just after half-time thanks to a goal from Sara Ryan, but Queensland representative Lauren Scholl earned her team a share of the points with a goal from a penalty corner.

In the other game Fraser Flames beat Youngbloods 5-3.

Jess Burke scored the winning goal late in the game.
