Holloway gets dialysis
NIGEL Holloway has been bumped up the queue and is now getting dialysis treatment at Hervey Bay Hospital.
But he is not exactly over the moon.
Sure, it means he does not have to drive six hours a day, three times a week, to Nambour Hospital but it does not fix the problem of a lack of facilities on the Fraser Coast, he said.
“It still doesn’t solve the problem of the dialysis centre and everyone else.
“It’s better for me but what about all the other people getting shipped off?”
Mr Holloway believes he is only getting treatment in Hervey Bay because of media attention: “They got wind it was going on the news.”
“They turned around and said I was fourth on the list and the doctor by-passed the others to get me in at Hervey Bay.”
He also claims overhearing nurses say nobody should talk to him because he will go straight to the newspaper. And that is despite hospital staff, as he described, “sucking up”.
Mr Holloway was diagnosed with his third kidney failure about three weeks ago.
