Hooray for Gunny-wood
THE sleepy town of Gunalda turned a little bit Hollywood on Wednesday afternoon as film crews took over the town's century-old hotel.
Surprised locals looked on in wonderment as a support crew arrived and started setting up in the main street opposite the hotel.
Truck fulls of lighting equipment and props were unloaded while a portable generator and dressing rooms were erected.
"What's going on here?" one local asked as he wandered into the street.
"I don't know; they turned up about half an hour ago," an onlooker replied.
Even the Local Friendly Grocer shop assistant didn't know the full story.
"All I was told (by a security guard) was they were going to film a movie," she said.
It turned out the Gunalda Hotel is the latest set in a new Australian horror/slasher film called Charlie's Farm.
Producer Sean Gannon, who worked on the Australian slasher classic Wolf Creek, said the movie was being filmed in around Gympie and the Sunshine Coast at secret locations.
Sources say the crew is filming at a farm at Lagoon Pocket today.
Mr Gannon said there were about 70 cast on location for filming on Wednesday.
Some are huge overseas names.
Website IMDb says the movie boasts a who's who of the horror film actors in the cast.
They include names like Kane Hodder, best known for his portrayal of Jason Voorhees in four films from the Friday the 13th series.
And American Bill Moseley who starred in Halloween and The Devil's Rejects.
Sharknado fans don't miss out either; Tara Reid is cast as the leading lady according to IMDb.
The model and actress is a major Hollywood star, having appeared in box office favourites American Pie 1 and 2 and The Big Lebowski.
