Hopgood ruled out with injury
BREAKING: Just when the Hervey Bay Seagulls thought their horrible run with injuries was over, star five-eighth Tyrone Hopgood has been ruled out of this Saturday's preliminary final against Easts Magpies.
Hopgood suffered ligament damage to his right ankle in last week's 48-point loss to Bundaberg Rugby League minor premiers Brothers.
He'll sit on the sideline with experienced halfback, Clinton Horne, who is still recovering from a mystery illness which has seen him lose five kilos since he was struck down by the virus last week.
Hervey Bay's latest injury blow means Seagulls coach Peter Regan will have to orchestrate a win with a makeshift halves combination.
Skipper Mitch Yarrow seems the likely player to fill in at halfback for a second successive week, while Horne's younger brother, Terry, could be handed the number six jersey.
But Regan said no decisions would be made until after tonight's training session.
"We've just got to see what's available first," he said.
"Some guys are still sore after Sunday and both our sides (reserves and first grade) are in damage control at the moment."
In about the only good news for the Seagulls, ever-reliable prop Brett Bunker has been declared a certain starter for their all-or-nothing clash against Easts after missing last week's match due to work commitments.
GAME ON: Hervey Bay v Easts Magpies, Saturday, 7.30pm at Salter Oval, Bundaberg
