HORROR FATAL: New details revealed as communities mourn

THE communities of Gympie and Curra are in mourning today after the news of a horror accident last night, which claimed the lives of two young men.

A 25-year-old Curra man was driving a Mazda dual-cab utility when it left Harvey Siding Road killing both himself and his 26-year-old passenger from Gympie.

The horrific accident happened shortly after 7pm.

"Just after 7pm a Mazda utility (was) travelling northbound on Harvey Siding Rd, and the driver has failed to negotiate a right hand bend in the road and has subsequently lost control of the vehicle and it's collided with a tree," Wide Bay Forensic Crash Unit officer-in-charge Sergeant Steve Webb said at the scene last night.

Both of the men were pronounced dead at the scene and the forensic crash unit is preparing a report for the coroner.

There has been an out-pouring of grief on The Gympie Times Facebook page with most readers saddened to hear of this latest tragedy.

"How devastating. My thoughts are with the friends, families and community at this horribly sad time," said Victoria Van Schie.

"I feel for the parents and extended families... what a tragedy," said Dyan Thomson.

Julie Roadley also expressed her condolences as did Maggie Richards who said: "Very sad for families the grief will go on for years for the ones left behind. RIP."

Ness Maccad said in addition to being saddened by the news, the accident had frightened her.

"Doesn't matter how much education these young ones have about the dangers of speeding they just don't listen. So sad for both families. As a parent of children in their early twenties this frightened me. Condolences to the families," she said.
