How would you celebrate the Urangan Pier's 100th birthday?

YOUR ideas are wanted for the best way to celebrate the Urangan Pier's 100th birthday.

The Urangan Pier centenary committee is gearing up to mark the iconic landmark's big day on March 3 2017, and is now calling on the public's ideas about how to celebrate the significant moment in Hervey Bay's history.

"When the Urangan Pier was officially opened on 3 March 1917, Hervey Bay was a very different place and it was hoped that the port facility would be a major point of departure for the region's coal, sugar and other goods," chairperson of the committee George Seymour said.

"That use has now gone, but the pier remains as a much loved structure for people of all ages to enjoy.

"Over the last century many happy days have been spent there and memories made, it is this connection between the Hervey Bay community and the Pier that we want to celebrate for its centenary."

The committee is currently gathering ideas for the planning stage for the centenary celebrations.

Anyone with ideas should contact Mr Seymour via email on George.seymour@frasercoast.qld.gov.au or by phone on 0448 183 372.
