Hundreds farewell Rodney Walker

HUNDREDS of mourners gathered at the Maryborough Crematorium yesterday to pay their respects to 21-year-old Rodney Walker.

Mr Walker was tragically killed and four teenage boys injured when the car they were travelling in left Seven Mile Road, Tinana, last Saturday afternoon and smashed into a tree.

At his funeral, Mr Walker – affectionately known by his Maryborough Bears teammates as Rocket – was described as a passionate Aussie rules player who was “liked by everyone who knew him.”

There wasn’t a dry eye in the chapel when three of his aunts, one of his younger sisters and his cousin all gave touching tributes.

Messages from his two friends who were seriously injured in the accident were also read to the gathering.

They described Rodney as a “great mate” who they would never forget.

Police investigations are continuing into the accident.

It remains unknown how and why the 16-year-old driver lost control but speed has been ruled out.
